research

My primary research interest is understanding the complex interplay between climate and tectonics as it pertains to the evolution of orogenic systems.  For my Master's work I will be studying the pre-rollback convergence of the Mediterranean to understand the nature of mountain formation prior to trench rollback and the impact it may have had on climate, ocean circulation and later episodes of deformation.  To accomplish this I will pull from several tools including U-Pb zircon geochronology (detrital or otherwise), zircon and apatite fission track thermochronology, Nd isotope geochemistry and any other method or study I can find that will get the job done.

Other

I was born  in Columbus, OH and have lived there until recently, when the winds of science blew me to Columbia, SC.  Over the past few years I've developed a keen interest in sustainable farming and have been working part time on a farm raising chickens and sheep, watching after ornery horses, constructing a cob house and growing delicious vegetables.  This is something I hope I can find an outlet for in Columbia because it's not right to go a day without  getting soil stuck in your fingernails.  I also enjoy the fine art of beer brewing, porch-sitting and learning to cook new and delectable foods.

NEWS

I accepted an offer to join Team Barbeau and look forward to beginning my Master's work starting this fall!
