Acid-Base Experiment

Question

How does the pH vary among common household items? Can CO2 gas when mixed with water create acid rain?

Materials

lemon, Coke, Pepsi, Alka-Seltzer, air line tubing, 2 flask, 2 rubber stoppers, vinegar, liquid soap.

pH paper, pH meter.

Methods

In our first experiment we tested the pH of various household items using litmus paper. In our second experiment we dissolved Alka-Sletzer in water to produce CO2 gas, and bubbled the gas into a flask containing water

Results

We learned that a lot of household items and some foods we eat are actually acids!
