Tidal channels in Venice Lagoon
To see a movie of creek network development put your cursor over the black area to the right and click to start or stop. |
Formation of a tidal network in a salt marsh. The channels extend headward in areas where the shear stress of the tidal flow is higher than the critical shear stress for sediment erosion. The right, left and upper boundaries are impermeable (mainland). Channel width is calculated as a function of local water discharge. Courtesy of Andrea D'Alpaos, Universita' di Padova |
