Geology 508 - Palynology
Goals of course: This course is designed as an introduction to the study of recent and fossil pollen. It will cover methods of identification of modern and fossil types, correlation and dating of geological or archaeological events, ecological or environmental reconstructions (e.g. climate and sea level changes), and uses for allergy remediation and forensic purposes.
Course lectures will be interwoven with laboratory exercises. Lab exercises will involve methods of pollen and extraction and microscopic identification of important types.
