Regional Tectonics
of the Carpathians

Textbook: There will be no required textbook for the course. Required readings will be drawn from the scientific literature, and will form the basis for weekly discussion topics.
Credit hours: 3
Course Objectives: This course is designed to provide an overview of the tectonics, geology, and geophysics of the Carpathian orogenic system. Students should gain an understanding both of the tectonics of the Carpathians, and tectonic concepts of orogenic processes.
Office Hours: T Th 2:30-3:30 p.m. and by appointment (J. Knapp)
T Th 3:00-4:00 p.m. and by appointment (C. Knapp)
Grading System: The course grade will be based on a combination of class attendance (15%) and participation (25%) and a topical presentation (60%). There will be no final exam.
Class Attendance: Attendance is an integral part of the class. Missing more than 2 class meetings will be grounds for a lower grade.
