Research Expertise

Stable isotope geochemistry of biogenic carbonates and organic matter as applied to problems in paleoecology, paleoceanography, paleoclimatology, paleolimnology and chemical stratigraphy. My most recent major undertaking has been the initiation and organization of the Baikal Drilling Project, an international (Russian, American, Japanese) and interdisciplinary effort to extract a 20 million year time series of continental climate change and geological evolution from the world's oldest, deepest and volumetrically largest freshwater lake, Lake Baikal, southeastern Siberia, Russia.
