BS (2008)

Reid was a geology major in our department who did an undergraduate research project in our lab and has stayed on to pursue his MS degree.

Reid graduated in 2008 and immediately began working for Romarko Minerals on the delineation of the remaining resource and planned reopening of the Haile Gold Mine, which is located in Kershaw County, SC, not far from Columbia.  With the financial support of the Haile Gold Mine Company, Reid is now working toward his MS degree on a research project related to the mineralization of the Haile ore body.  Reid continues to work part time at the mine while he pursues his MS degree.

Reid’s undregraduate research project was an electron microprobe study of ultramafic xenoliths from Kharchinsky Volcano in Kamchatka.  Reid presented the results of his research at the 2008 national meeting of the Geological Society of America in Houston.  Reid also was awarded second place in the poster competition at the 2008 University of South Carolina ‘Discovery Day’ research forum.  Reid’s undergraduate research was funded in part by the university’s Magellan Scholars Program.  He received our department’s Outstanding Junior award in 2007.  Reid is a native of Blythewood, SC.
